Dale & Betty Bedgood

Dale and Betty Bedgood have found numerous ways to share their resources over the years. Betty and I have tried to share through our church and various organization all of our married lives,  Dale said. “As Betty and I are both alumni of A&M-Commerce, we have each had very fulfilling careers and enjoy giving back to the university.”

Their love for this university stems from a long-term relationship with the school. Dale’s mother, and all four of his siblings attended A&M-Commerce. Dale began his time at A&M-Commerce as an 18-year old freshman. When he graduated, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force through the R.O.T.C.

After four years in the Air Force, Dale entered graduate school at The University of Arkansas to study mathematics. This is where Dale met Betty, who was also beginning graduate study in the Department of English there. Betty, a native Georgian, attended Mercer University where she earned her B. A. degree in English.

After they each earned their Masters Degrees, they were married.

After teaching mathematics at a university in Louisiana for two years, Dale entered Oklahoma State University and earned the doctors degree in mathematics. Betty taught English at Oklahoma State University during this time.

Dale and Betty moved to Commerce where he was appointed Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics at A&M-Commerce. Betty returned to the classroom and earned the M.S. Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at A&M-Commerce. She completed her career as The Chief Clinical Dietitian at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paris.

"We chose to donate because the university has provided so many opportunities to our friends and family throughout the East Texas region."

“During our tenure here, we witnessed much growth and many wonderful changes in the university,” Dale said.  “We were a part of so much of this and we just have a special feeling and affection for the university; this is our way of giving back.”
