13.99.99.R0.15 Honors Office

Supplements System Policy: System Policy 13.02

1. The purpose of the Honors Office is to coordinate the activities of:

a. The Honors Program.

(1) University Studies Honors Courses.

(2) University Honors.

b. The University Colloquium Program.

c. The Awards Day Luncheon.

d. Alpha Chi National Honor Society.

2. The Honors Office and the Director of Honors comes under the administration of the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

3. The director of Honors is appointed by and serves at the discretion of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The director is usually a senior member of the teaching faculty who has had the opportunity to become familiar with the programs and activities of the Honors Office. The director calls and presides over meetings of the Honors Committee and otherwise supervises the activities of the Honors Program. The director may receive up to a 50% workload equivalency to administer the Honors Office.

4. The Honors Committee is an advisory body that works with the Honors Director in shaping and upholding the general philosophy, specific procedures, and guidelines of the Honors Program and its related activities. Membership on the committee is recommended by the Director and approved by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. In addition to the director, there are eleven members selected from the faculty and professional staff, each serving a three-year term and representing the broadest possible spectrum of academic disciplines within the University.
