13.99.99.R0.18 University Colloquium

Effective: September 1, 1996

Supplements System Policy: System Policy 13.02

1. The university colloquium is administered by the director of the Honors Program.

2. Participation in the university colloquium, a series of unstructured discussion sessions meeting regularly, is open to all students. Attendance at these sessions does not require registration for university colloquium, though such registration is open each term for non-credit at no cost. If a student registers for university colloquium (HC 100 for freshmen; HC 200 for sophomores; HC 300 for juniors; HC 400 for seniors), the grade is determined by attendance.

3. The university colloquium in any semester will have sessions scheduled every day. The times and numbers of these sessions are determined by the number of faculty willing to give an hour to this program without compensation either in money or reduced teaching load.

4. Faculty leaders of the university colloquium are selected by the director of Honors. An effort is made to select faculty representing all of the undergraduate departments and to offer this opportunity to faculty representing as many academic departments as possible.

5. Topics in the colloquium sessions are usually selected by students. No prescribed topic or set of reading materials exists for the usual colloquium.

6. The purpose of this highly unstructured program is to give students the opportunity to meet faculty members on a more intimate basis than in the classroom situation.
