Revised: April 28, 2006

Supplements System Regulation: 24.01.01

Texas A&M University-Commerce (A&M-Commerce) is supportive of faculty, staff, and student activities both on and off campus, but also recognizes that the safety of our people is of utmost importance. The safety guidelines in this rule apply to all employees and students who travel using University vans.

  1. Rule

1.1 All van reservations shall be made, in advance, to the University Police Department. A department account number will be necessary when making the reservation.

1.2 All van drivers shall be approved and trained, in advance, through the A&M-Commerce Fleet Manager. The training will consist of a brief van safety discussion, and a van test drive; this will be required every three years. Complete procedures can be found on A&M-Commerce Physical Plant website or by contacting the Fleet Manager.

1.3 A passenger list is required before the van is checked out. In addition, the driver must maintain a list of passengers on the paperwork acquired at time of check-out. Exception: Local trips (within city limits of Commerce) are excluded from this rule.

1.4 When using a 15-passenger van, only 10 occupants (including driver) are permitted. All occupants must use seat belts. Luggage shall not be carried on top of the van.

1.5 All drivers of University vehicles must comply with the A&M-Commerce Transportation Department Procedures Manual. A copy of this manual can be found on the A&M-Commerce Physical Plant website or by contacting the Fleet Manager.
