Beef Cattle Show Team

The A&M Commerce Beef Cattle Show Team had a successful outing at the East Texas State Fair Hereford Show on 1-3 October 2009. The team achieved the following placings:

• 2nd place - class 2, Junior Heifer Calves
• 1st place - class 14, Junior Yearling Heifers
• 3rd place - class 17, Senior Yearling Heifers
• 2nd place - class 25, Spring Bull Calves

Team members participating were Agricultural Science students Nicole Parker, Lauren Ramsey, Ashley Smith, and Kristen Stockard.

Equine Show Team

The Texas A&M University-Commerce Equine Show Team traveled to Sulphur Springs on Saturday, October 3, 2009 for the last show of the Red River Horse Club Series.  They all did well.  Rachael Kiowksi, Becky Ellis, Brittany Davis, Holly Pryor, Allison Pricer, and Lara Holleb all particpated.  The events that were competed in were stallion, mare, and gelding halter classes as well as western walk/trot and western pleasure classes.  The team took home multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placings as well as some grand and reserve awards.

Homecoming with our Ag Alumni

On 10 October 2009, 60 alumni from our Department attended various events including a breakfast, hamburger cookout with the FarmBoys, and a brisket cookout with Alpha Gamma Rho.  Jerry Lockhart was named Ag Alumni President for 2010.  Including students, faculty, and staff, over 100 were in attendance.

Alpha Gamma Rho

Alpha Gamma Rho has been exceptionally active this calendar year.  Recently, in mid-September ten members participated in a community work project where they cleared unwanted rocks and shredded weedy areas for the Commerce Community Garden.  In late September, AGR hosted the Ag Olympics which concluded the events held during the two-day Departmental picnic and Scavenger Hunt. At Homecoming, AGR included a truck in the parade and hosted the brisket cookout mentioned earlier.  In mid October, fraternity members cleaned up the entrance areaThe fraternity includes 11 members with five recruits seeking to join.  Dr. Flavio Ribeiro server as faculty advisor and Ben Scholz serves as alumni advisor.  Upcoming events include a Halloween Party on 28 Oct, location yet to be determined.   Current members are Jake Bradshaw, Bart Day, Peter Coenen, John Garrett, Luis Gamez, Adam Hurst, Lance Nice, Chase Smith, Doug Weir, Rob Wren, and Wes Young.
