Are there Scholarships available for teacher education majors?

The College of Education and Human Services is proud to offer students seeking teaching certification financial assistance in the form of scholarships. Please visit the COEHS Mentor Center or your department for specific criteria. The typical deadline for submitting a Scholarship Application is February 15th.

The Oren Calvin & Linnie Robinson Atchley Memorial Scholarship ($500):

Must be currently enrolled in the A&M-Commerce Teacher Education Program

The Ann & Stuart Chilton Scholarship:

  • Must be an education major

  • Must be in good standing with the university
  • Must have a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Must have a degree plan on file in the Dean’s Office
  • Can be either an undergraduate or graduate student
  • Recipient will also include a personal interview before the scholarship committee

The Joe Max Harbour Memorial Endowment Scholarship ($500):

  • Must be an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in teacher education (any level)

  • Must be admitted to the teacher education program through the College of Education & Human Services
  • One half of this scholarship will be awarded for the upcoming Fall semester and the other half in the following Spring semester

Cordie Lennon Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Student must be preparing to be a teacher

  • Student must be a permanent resident of Hopkins, Hunt, or Rains county

The William J. & Elthie N. Meads Endowment Scholarship ($250):

  • Student must live in Hopkins, Wood, or Bowie County

  • Student must be an education major with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in their major
  • Student must be of junior or senior class status
  • Student must be in good standing with the university

Thelma & Elmore Oldham Memorial Scholarship Endowment ($500):

  • Recipient must meet the minimum entrance requirements of the university

  • Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their major
  • Student must be pursuing a degree leading to a career in professional education
  • First priority; student must be a third generation or a later descendant of Thelma & Elmore Oldham or be a resident of Camp County

William A. Owens Memorial Endowment Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Student must be pursuing a degree in teacher education

  • Student must have an interest in creative writing
  • Recipient must be an undergraduate or graduate student
  • Recipient must be a full time student
  • Must be in good standing with the university
  • Preference goes to the student that demonstrates great financial need

Dorothy Pace Philley Scholarship ($1,000):

Student must be majoring in Education and/or Science

The Ralph Poteet Teacher Education Scholarship ($500):

  • Student must be a graduate of Mesquite high school

  • Student must be a teacher education major with an overall minimum 3.0 GPA

The Tuck Endowment Scholarship ($500):

  • Student must be a single, working mother who is a full time student

  • Preference goes to teacher preparation majors

The Leon & Enois Walker Scholarship ($1,000):

  • An undergraduate or graduate student demonstrating financial need

  • An overall minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must be an education major
