Organizational History

Founded on March 17, 1921, Phi Alpha Theta is the National Honors Society for History. It is a professional organization whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication, and exchange of learning and ideas among historians. Phi Alpha Theta seeks to bring students, teachers, and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication.  

The Phi Alpha Theta chapter at Texas A&M University-Commerce, Eta Beta, was founded on March, 1959, and the founding charter hangs on the wall of our departmental office. We are an active and "Best Chapter" award winning organization.

Annual Banquet:The Phi Alpha Theta annual banquet and new member inductio  is scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2012, at 7 p.m. Mark your calendars!  Tickets can be purchased in March and April 2012 from Belinda Mulrooney in the Department of History office.
