Research Interests

Geotechnical: Instrumentation and remote data acquisition with respect to braced excavation and earth retention system behaviors; slope stability and stabilization analysis; expansive soils and pavement stabilization techniques; tunneling systems including boring methods in addition to cut-and-cover construction systems.
Structural Analysis: Timber design with emphasis on temporary shoring and concrete formwork design and analysis.

Engineering and Construction Experience

MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. Fort Worth, TX. Branch Office Manager and Senior Geotechnical Engineer.  Managing both the materials testing operations in addition to the geotechnical consulting division of a national materials testing organization.Monitored the preparation of geotechnical reports in addition to design recommendations and supervised significant amounts of field work on highly visible projects. 2004.Budgets and cost analysis were prepared and operations within both the materials testing division and geotechnical section regularly.  Profit and loss statements were generated and analyzed on a regular basis with operational changes made accordingly.

PSI, Professional Services Industries, Inc. Fort Worth, TX. Branch Manager and DFW District Manager.  Managing construction materials and testing operations. Laboratory   testing functions and testing procedures were monitored on a daily basis and data analyzed and reports prepared. Supervised the preparation of cost estimates and proposals in addition to operational budgets.  Profit and loss statements were developed and operational changes made accordingly.  2000 - 2002

SpectraSite Broadcast Group, Irving, TX. Structural and geotechnical engineer. Performed design and analysis of modifications for existing digital television structures. Most structures ranging in height from 1000’ to 2000’. Antenna reconfigurations, rigging, foundation design, and collocation analyses represented a significant portion of scope of  work. 2002 – 2004.

Construction Consulting Services, Inc., Baton Rouge, LA. Self employed consulting civil engineer specializing in geotechnical and subsurface analysis and design. Braced excavation, cofferdams, and footing design were typical projects within my areas of expertise.  Performed numerous prestressed concrete slab designs for  residential structures. 1984 – 2002.

Forte and Tablada, Inc. Baton Rouge, LA. Senior Structural Engineer. Performed load verifications of bridge structures in addition to calculation preparation for components of commercial water treatment facilities.  1995

Soils and Foundation Engineers, Inc. Baton Rouge, LA. Geotechnical Engineer. Performed design and analysis of concrete footings, drilled piers, foundations, and braced excavations and similar earth retention structures.  Developed pile capacity values for structures located within the Mississippi River including river boat moorings and docking structures.  1992 – 1996.
    
Tierra West Contracting, Inc.,Tempe, AZ., Project Manager and field superintendent.Prepared estimates and critical path schedules for major earthwork projects in addition to commercial buildings.  Field superintendent managing daily operations of earthmoving, compaction, and water dispersion equipment. 1980 – 1982.

Salt River Project Public Utility Commission, Tempe, AZ. Senior Cost Engineer. Directed the development and updating of budgets, forecasts, reconciliations and project management costs for major fossil-fueled and nuclear power generation facilities in the southwestern United States. 1976 - 1997.

Bechtel Power Corporation, Los Angeles Power Division, Norwalk, CA. Construction Field Engineer performing inspections, material and equipment estimates, quantity surveys on various fossil-fueled generating stations.  Monitored concrete placements including quantity surveys, rebar estimates, and prepared concrete form-work designs for two nuclear powered generating stations. 1972 – 1976.

• Initial holder of The Contractors Educational Trust Fund Endowed Professorship at The University of Louisiana at Monroe holding the rank of tenured full professor and the department chair. 1996 – 2000.
