A professor demonstrating in physics lab

Department of Physics & Astronomy

The Physics faculty emphasizes physics learning and undergraduate and  graduate research, which most students will start doing during their sophomore or junior year. Graduate students will study in one of only two Physics graduate programs with the Texas A&M University system.

Students can participate in a local chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and a local physics club. There are also many opportunities to join research teams operating in the areas of signal analysis,  surface physics, astronomy, theoretical solid-state physics, theoretical nuclear physics and astrophysics, and applications of microcomputers to instrumentation.
