Materials: Textbooks, Homework (Lessons), and Library Services

meterialsThe student may order books directly from publisher, may obtain them from nearby retail outlets, or order from the University Bookstore, TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY-COMMERCE, Commerce, TX 75429, Telephone 903-886-5830. Orders for textbooks should be sent to the store from which the student wishes to buy them and not to Extended Studies. Order forms can be found in the back of this booklet.

Additional study guides

Enrolled students who have either lost or misplaced their study guide may purchase a replacement. Contact the Office of Extended Studies for a new syllabus. If a student loses the lessons of a course, a fee of $10.00 will be charged for a second copy. For information regarding fees for examinations see EXAMINATIONS on the Course Completion page.

Homework (Lessons)

A good quality of lightweight ruled or un-ruled theme paper should be used for all lessons in order to reduce the cost of postage. Papers must be written in ink or typed on a computer. Mathematics papers should be in pencil. The name of the course, the lesson number, name and address of the student, and date of mailing must be written at the top of the first page of each lesson. Each page should be numbered and the pages should be carefully arranged in proper order. Wide margins should be left for the instructor's comments and corrections. Notes and letters concerning the work in progress may be written to the instructor and included with the lesson. Each lesson should be folded individually when enclosed in an envelope for mailing. Carelessly prepared papers will not be accepted. Staple each lesson individually. Full postage should be attached if the professor instructs you in the syllabus to enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Be sure to read your syllabus to obtain your instructions on how to turn in your assignments.

Please do not send anything by Certified Mail!

Lessons must be sent to the Extended Studies office unless specified in your syllabus:

Texas A&M University-Commerce
c/o College of Business & Technology
B.A. Building, Room 253
P.O. Box 3011
Commerce, TX 75429-9988

You may also e-mail lessons to: ES@tamu-commerce.edu

The student must pay full postage both ways on all lessons he/she sends in. A self-addressed, stamped envelope with sufficient postage must be enclosed for return of the lessons, unless the instructor has specified differently. Lessons received at Texas A&M University-Commerce with postage due will be refused. Lessons, which are sent without proper return postage, cannot be returned. If you live outside the U.S. you must pay an additional $45.00 for delivery of course materials.

NOTE:

It is suggested that the student make a copy of each completed lesson before mailing it. This will protect the student if any questions arise concerning that particular lesson or if the lesson should be lost in the mail. This is not a requirement.

When a student enrolls for an Extended Studies course, all lessons for the course will be mailed or handed to the student. No more than three lessons per week can be accepted. Be sure to read the class syllabus. Some instructors will only accept a certain number at a time.

Time Limitations

Instructors are not asked to grade Extended Studies papers during any period when the university is not in session. Students enrolled in courses in the semester in which they are graduating will have to be finished with the courses at least three weeks before grades are due. Non-TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY-COMMERCE students that are graduating, need to call ahead of time to see when our professors leave for the semester.

Remember:

All course work, including the final exam, must be taken no later than your course expiration date.

Mail Time

Students who are rushing to meet a deadline often fail to consider the mail time involved. Once we receive your lesson, it is placed into campus mail to the appropriate instructor. When planning your schedule, don't forget to allow for mail time-both to and from Extended Studies and to and from instructor.

End of Semester Rush

All lessons must be submitted before taking the exam. Exams must be 3 weeks before any grade deadline for your academic program. Because of staff and instructor overload at the end of semesters, we cannot guarantee a grade in ample time to be graded.

Library Services

If supplementary library materials are needed, the instructor's assignment will contain specific directions concerning the material needed.

Extended Studies students that are not Texas A&M University-Commerce students, desiring to utilize the services of the University Library for reference books are required to make a deposit of $10.00. This should be sent to Extended University and when the books are returned and the library privilege is no longer desired by the student, all but five dollars of this deposit will be refunded, provided there is no charge against it. However, if materials from the main library are not requested, this deposit is not necessary.
