H.M. Lafferty Doctoral Scholarship
Through the generous contributions of the late Dr. H. M. & Rachel Lafferty, we are proud to offer the H. M. Lafferty Doctoral Scholarship Program. Dr. H. M. "Jim" Lafferty became a member of the East Texas State Teachers College family in 1936, was a faculty member in the department of Secondary and Higher Education, and retired from East Texas State University in 1981 as Director of Institutional Research. His wife, Rachel, held two degrees from this University.
The Laffertys embraced East Texas State University and established three endowments. Because of Dr. & Mrs. Lafferty's vision and generosity, many students have earned a higher education degree and many more students will realize their dreams of education excellence through the Doctoral Scholarship Program.
The Doctoral Scholarship program awards scholarships of $3,000 per year for two years. Awardees are also eligible to pay resident tuition for the terms of the scholarship. If the awardees are receiving financial aid during the terms of the award, there may be a need to adjust their total financial aid package.
Recipients of the H. M. Lafferty Doctoral Scholarship must comply with the following requirements through out the course of the scholarship: be admitted to a doctoral degree program at A&M-Commerce, be enrolled as a full time graduate student each semester of scholarship (9 graduate credit hours or 6 graduate hours and a full time GA), be in academic good standing, and make satisfactory progress toward graduation.
