Jerry & Marilyn Morris Distinguished Scholarships
The Jerry & Marilyn Morris Scholarship
The late Jerry D. Morris had a long and varied career at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He came to what was then East Texas State University in 1970 as Director of Placement; a year later he was named Dean of Admissions and Records, where he served for two years before being named Dean of the Graduate School, a position he held for nine years. He was promoted to Vice President for Academic Affairs and served in that role for four years before being named the 9th President of the University in 1987. Dr. Morris served as President and CEO until his retirement in 1997, and in recognition of his long and distinguished service to Texas A&M University-Commerce, the Board of Regents bestowed upon him the honor of President Emeritus. Although his degrees were received at the University of Arkansas, he loved this university and his theme throughout his tenure was "developing talent." He and his wife, Marilyn, a proud graduate of A&M-Commerce, consider it a privilege to be able to give back to the university that has meant so much to them.
