30-Hour Rule

Applies to: First time undergraduate students enrolled in Fall 2006 and thereafter.

The law: Resident undergraduate student whose attempted hours exeeds, by at lest 30 semester hours, the number of hours required for the completion of  a degree program will be charged tuition at a higher rate.

Additional Information:  The higher rate will not exceed the rate charged to non-resident students.

3-Peat Rule

Applies to:  All Students

The Law: The 78th Legislative session, HB1 mandates that students repeating a course for a third or more time may be subject to an additional fee for the repeated course. 

Additional Information:  Upon enrollment in the same class for a third time, the student will be assessed a higher fee.  This applies to Texas A&M University-Commerce courses--not transfer work.

45-Hour Rule

Applies to: First time undergraduate students who are enrolled in Fall 1999 through Summer 2006

The Law: Resident undergraduate students whose attempted hours exceeds by at least 45 semester hours, the number of hours reguired for a degree program will be charged at a higher rate.

6-Drop Rule

Applies to: First time undergraduate students enrolled in Fall 2007 and thereafter.

The Law: A student is allowed to drop no more than six courses for the duration of their colligate career.

Additional Information: A drop is any course(s) dropped while still remaining enrolled.  This applies to all course(s) including transfer work.  This does not apply to withdrawals.
